SpikeWAMP Features
SpikeWAMP has several features that make it unique among other free WAMP stacks available today.
Quick installations
SpikeWAMP is a simple, quick installation. The stack is merely 22 MB in size. So including the download time you should be done with installation in under 10 minutes. The components are pre-configured to work with each other and everything just works right out of the box. You won't have to play with different configuration files of different components and the like.
Application Add-ons
If you are interested in a WAMP stack, chances are sooner or later you would want to run some of the cool open-source applications on top of it. Ever wondered if you can get a stack that will let you choose any number of different applications? SpikeWAMP is what you are looking for. Choose from the several available WAMP applications and see how easy it is to install them. The stack takes care of most of the application configuration for you including creating a database, creating a MySQL user, and granting required permissions.
Seamless Updates
Ever wanted to try that beta release of the next big version of an application or a component? Or just want to upgrade to the latest stable release of a component to get some bug fixes? With SpikeWAMP you can! We will make select beta versions of applications available in our update channel. We will also give you updates of most important version upgrades of all of the major components that make up SpikeWAMP.
Configuration Protection
With SpikeWAMP's built-in configuration protection, you can have your way with configuring the services and applications. SpikeWAMP protects all your changes to configuration files and will not overwrite any of them during an update. Moreover, the applications will still work out of the box even if you have changed ports or password around.
Cool Runtime
SpikeWAMP works on top of Prefixed Portage, a variation of the supercool runtime system used by Gentoo Linux. Plus, you get a stripped down version of the popular Cygwin environment built-in. Those of you who like the power of bash shell on Linux, can enjoy the same experience on Windows too when working with SpikeWAMP.
And the runtime is only used when applying updates and configuring add-ons. So during normal operation there is no performance overhead because of it.
